Could it be NBC's Time to Shine this summer?

NBC has been one of the best networks when it comes to sports coverage in history. That took a major hit when they lost the NBA and NASCAR among others. But with the addition of the NHL, the major sports ratings are NBC's for the taking this summer.

Can NBC give ESPN a run for its money during "Championship Season?"

Let's take a look at the lineups that the major networks have through September, starting with FOX, who any other summer could compete with NBC.

Can MLB provide as much drama as all of NBC's events once NASCAR switches to TNT/ESPN?

FOX Sports:
FOX Saturday Baseball: Regional Games of the Week
MLB All-Star Game from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Races through June 3 including:

  • Aaron's 499 at Talladega
  • Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington, Mother's Day Weekend
  • Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, Memorial Day Weekend
**The Sprint Showdown and All-Star Race will be on SPEED, owned by FOX**
UEFA Champions League Soccer
Select Formula 1 Races from SPEED
NFL on FOX (Preseason Football and Beginning of Regular Season)

Don't expect much now, but wait until the fall!

Here is CBS' lineup through September:
PGA Tour Golf (no majors)
AMA Supercross
Tennis (including US Open)
NFL on CBS (Preseason Football and Beginning of Regular Season)
SEC on CBS (Beginning of College Football Season)

Sorry, wrong logo. You probably expected this atrocity below...

Messed up by moving NSCS Races to ESPN...and think Indycar can match the ratings...

Here's ABC's lineup:
The (British) Open Championship Rounds 3 and 4
NASCAR Nationwide Series (2 Races):
  • Top Gear 300 presented by The History Channel at Charlotte (Memorial Day Weekend)
  • Zippo 200 at the Glen
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series:
  • "One Last Race to Make the Chase" at Richmond
  • NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America at Charlotte
**NSCS Chase for the Cup on ESPN**

IZOD Indycar Series

  • Indianapolis 500 (Memorial Day Weekend)
  • Chevy Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
  • Milwaukee IndyFest
  • Honda Indy Toronto
  • Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio
And some stupid show called "ESPN on ABC Sports Saturday...

And now here is NBC's lineup and it's a douzee...

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals
Horse Racing's Triple Crown
French Open
Wimbledon
Majority of PGA Tour Weekend Coverage
US Open (Golf)
The Players Championship
Tour de France
MLS Soccer
**IZOD IndyCar Series Races, including the championship from Fontana, CA, on the NBC Sports Network**

and just when you think their lineup can't get anymore stacked, there's this...

Yeah. The 30th Annual Olympic Games Games of the XXX Olympiad. 300+ hours of coverage over the many platforms of NBCUniversal (NBC Sports Network, USA, CNBC, MSNBC, Syfy, Bravo, Oxygen, Telemundo...get the picture? It's a lot!). 12 1/2 days of coverage folks. That's mind-shatteringly awesome and unheard of for any...and I do mean ANY Olympic broadcaster, not in their home country.

Throw in NFL Preseason and Sunday Night Football to start the season and I can't see how they can't dominate the ratings this summer. But then again, putting Ryan Seacrest on Olympic coverage can quickly and swiftly defeat the purpose of this article and make me and NBC look like total jackasses.

So here's to hoping Seacrest doesn't screw up our Olympic memories!

Please don't screw this up!!!

And come October...can NBC have their place as the #1 broadcast sports network solidified? Simple...we are gonna find out and it's gonna be fun doing it.

Oh, did I mention we will have coverage of all of your favorite sports events, right here, on Facebook and Twitter!

Daytona Speedweeks: The Year of the Unknown and Downright Insane

I have been watching NASCAR since the 2005 Busch (now Nationwide) Series race at Talladega Superspeedway and this past week's Daytona Speedweeks were the most crazy week of racing I have seen in my life, and rivals some of the craziest events I have seen in sports period.

So let's recap it!

Saturday, February 18 (seems forever ago): Brandon McReynolds runs out of gas off of Turn 4 on the final lap and Bobby Gerhart wins the ARCA Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 AGAIN.

Later that night: Kyle Busch nearly wrecks twice and somehow wins the Budweiser Shootout.

Ok, we all know Kyle Busch is one of the most aggressive drivers in NASCAR history. We also know he is about a good of a finesse driver as there is. But what he pulled off on this night left even the most hard to impress person saying "Damn, How in the hell did he do that?!"

After all that, the kid from Las Vegas (ironic enough) does this...

Friday Night: John King wins the Truck Series NextEra Energy Resources 250.

Ok, if Friday afternoon you asked me who would win this race, I would put out names like Jason Leffler, Todd Bodine, Matt Crafton, Johnny Sauter, Tim Peters, even Jason White. But what transpired in the wreck-fest that ensued had even the winner stunned...

John King (I still don't know who he is and can't find much about him) wins the race in his 8th Truck Series start.

Saturday Afternoon: James Buescher wins the Nationwide Series Drive 4 COPD 300.

Tony Stewart has dominated this event. In fact he has only lost 1 Daytona NNS February race since I have started watching. Didn't matter if it was for JGR or Hendrick, Childress or Dale Jr., the man won in just about everything he's been in at Daytona (excluding the 500 of course). And coming off Turn 4 on the final lap, he was about to make it another win. Then all hell broke loose.

Ok, talk about twist of fate in less than 24 hours. That last wreck in the Truck that sent Joey Coulter into the catchfence started when James Buescher got turned into Coulter. Then he gets left out to dry on the final restart in the NNS race and is 11th, by himself going into Turn 4. Wouldn't you know that the entire top 10 gets wiped out in a wreck and Buescher gets his first NASCAR win.

Then the grand finale of Speedweeks came on Sunday Afternoon...

Ok, the grand finale of Speedweeks came on Monday Afternoon...

Ok, can anyone say "Are you ready for some racing?!" Monday Night NASCAR it is! Unfortunately, we didn't make it 3 miles before we saw yellow.

Ok, for those of you who wondered, Dave Blaney (who was the leader of the 500 under caution) did not pay off Juan Pablo Montoya to do this...

And 5 days later, even though he couldn't be anymore in the throttle than he already was, I'm still heartbroken that my driver (Greg Biffle) was 2nd on the final lap of the Daytona 500 didn't win. Instead a repeat driver did it again...

Biffle's teammate, Matt Kenseth, wins his second Daytona 500 in four years.

Off to Phoenix, where Tony Stewart, Mark Martin and Greg Biffle are the favorites in the Subway Fresh Fit 500 Sunday.

The Jack Attack's 10 Favorite Sports Themes That NEED To Return

I'm back with another "Top 10" countdown, this time I rank 10 iconic sports themes that need to return to the airwaves.

10. NFL on NBC (Used Super Bowl XXVIII and 1994 season)
**It's a shame they decided to replace this theme. It was great, point blank.**

9. NASCAR on CBS (Used 1995-1997 (Winston Cup) and 1998 (Busch Series))
**Just recently found this, but it screams this era of NASCAR.**

8. NBA on TNT
**I am a HUGE fan of the current theme, but this one should definitely be used for "Inside The NBA"**

7. MLB on FOX  (Used 1998-2010)
I have no idea why FOX thought it was a good idea to use the NFL theme for ALL of their telecasts...

6. NFL on CBS (Used 1992-1993)
**Love the new theme too, just would like to see this anywhere.**

5. NASCAR on NBC/TNT (Used 2001-2003 and 2004 Daytona 500)
**NBC just needs to come back to NASCAR. Point Blank. I loved this theme so much, here's two instances of it for you. The 2001 Pepsi 400 at Daytona and the 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo 400 with the Looney Tunes from Richmond.**

4. NCAA Basketball on CBS (used 1993-2003)
**I don't like the remix. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.**

3. College Football on ABC (used 1998-2005)
**This was a casualty of the greatest sports tragedy in sports TV. The dissolving of ABC Sports and the creation of ESPN on ABC.**

2. NASCAR on FOX (Used 2001-2007)
**Once again, who told these guys their NFL intro would work for everything?!**

1.NBA on NBC  (Used 1989-2002)
**Comcast...If you are smart, get the NBA contract from ESPN/ABC**
